Conquistadors deliver a 4-1 victory over Gyrenes, battle lengthy lightning delay

AVE MARIA, Fla. ( Sept. 17, 2022) The Conquistadors continue their impressive season with another signature victory this time against Ave Maria University. Florida National’s 4-1 win over the Gyrenes came after a lengthy weather delay put a hold on the match before kickoff could even take place. With this win secured, FNU improves to 7-0-0 while Ave Maria drops to 4-2-0.

In the first half, The Conquistadors wasted no time getting on the board as soon as the weather permitted both teams to step onto the field. Two minutes into the contest, Santiago Leaniz executed a tempo-setting goal. At the 35-minute mark, Pedro Navarro scored FNU’s second goal on an assist from teammate Patricio Amores.

FNU dominated the half with 16 shots in the half, seven of which were on goal. Ave Maria had no shots on goal for the half.

In the second half, Ave Maria was able to put together a strong answer to FNU’s impressive execution through the first 45 minutes of play. Sixty-five minutes into the game, Ave Maria’s Josh Gaeng scored the Gyrenes’ first and only goal of the contest on an assist by Juan Parra.

With the score settled at 2-1, FNU responded to put themselves back up by two scores at the 83-minute mark. The game-defining goal came from Francisco Crimi on an assist by Bruno Gonzales. An 89-minute goal once again from Crimi was the icing on FNU’s seventh victory in as many games.

FNU had 15 shots in the second half with nine of them on goal to go along with six corners on the match.

Up Next: The Conquistadors prepare for an exciting and competitive contest against No. 7 Keiser University on the road September 21. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
