Diagnostic Sonography Grad finds Success through Confidence

There is no clear-cut mold for what success should look like. It takes many different forms, all personalized to the individual hoping to bask in its glow. It is no surprise that Florida National University (FNU) students have the perseverance to find success no matter what hurdles they have to go over. Diagnostic Sonography Graduate Maysury Justiz found her personal version of success after enrolling at FNU in 2011. Despite having to fight a language barrier, Maysury earned her degree in just 2 years. A lot of people would be satisfied with such an achievement and simply stop. However, complacency is not in her DNA. She had a clear understanding that to stand out, she would have to master her craft. Today, her list of licenses and certifications is extensive enough to resemble the readability of a dictionary, including RDMS in Abdomen, RVT and RDCS in Adult and Pediatric Eco. Currently, Maysury is working at Westchester General Hospital and is also under contract with South Beach Cardiology Primary Care at Baptist.

We were able to catch up with Maysury and ask her a few questions about how she got to this point.

What was your experience like at FNU?
Maysury: Amazing experience at FNU. I had a lot of help from my professors. They were all excellent and supportive. No matter what I needed, I always had support. Specifically, Professor Dannel Bisono was there with me every step of the way.

How difficult was it to pass all your exams and understand all the jargon despite the language barrier?
Maysury: I was able to pass all my exams quickly thanks to the support system I had around me. I was very driven and focused on my goals. If you study, it isn’t hard. It’s that simple. You have to put a lot of effort, but anyone can get there. My English wasn’t great when I got here. Reading and studying got me to where I am today. So much reading. You can’t be scared. Once you lose the fear, everything becomes simple. Always be positive.

Do you have any advice you’d like to share with current students that may be going through similar difficulties:
Maysury: Visualize what you truly want for your future. You can do anything you put your mind to. It’s all about believing and going to get it.
