HIALEAH, Fla. ( Oct. 11, 2022) – On a humid Tuesday afternoon, Florida National’s women’s soccer team launched an impressive comeback to remain unbeaten in conference play this year, defeating the Florida College Falcons, 3-2. With this victory in the rearview, FNU improves to 2-4-1 on the year while the Falcons fall to 6-6-1 and 0-2-0 in conference play.

The first half was littered with impressive offensive play from the Falcons, as they jumped to an early 2-0. Their first goal came from Victoria Fonseca on a ball that bounced off an FNU defender right onto her waiting feet for a powerful strike that reached the back of the net. The Falcons’ second goal came on a penalty kick cooly taken by Michaela Nicholson.

Both teams were evenly matched in most statistical categories, each claiming five corner kicks in the match. The Falcons led the contest in shots with 14 to FNU’s 12.

FNU faced a two-score hole, but wasted no time in digging their way out. Their first goal of the contest came late in the first 45 minutes by Bethania Pires da Cruz. With some ground recovered in the match, both teams retired for the half.

In the second half, FNU took control of the match, using their speed to push the ball and pressure Florida College center backs. Dominique Mosley and Delmis Reyes Amaya helped close out the match with clutch goals that ended the period and sealed another victory for the Conquistadors.
