Library Mission

The mission of the Florida National University Library is to support the curricular needs of the university. This includes the acquisition, organization, maintenance, and provision of timely access to library materials, in a variety of formats, which reflect current advances in academic and professional knowledge, as well as, information technology. As part of this mission, the library supports student and faculty research, the use of evolving information formats, and techniques that seek to encourage lifelong learning.

FNU Homepage CollageOnline Periodicals and more: Elibrary (a comprehensive digital archive for information seekers, It includes hundreds and hundreds of full-text periodicals, nine international newswires, classic books, hundreds of maps, thousands of photographs, as well as, major works of literature, art, and reference), InfoTrac (a database of magazine and journal indexes including over 1,800 full-text magazines, available online, which includes index entries, abstracts, and in most cases, the complete articles from magazines and journals), and ProQuest (an interdisciplinary database representing titles found in ABI INFORM, Periodicals and Newspaper Abstracts), as well as, LexisNexis (which includes Shepard’s Citations, broadcast transcripts, international news, and non-English language sources), among others.

Please access LIRN through Blackboard.  Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the FNU Blackboard Account
  2. Enter your Blackboard username and password
  3. On the left side menu, click on Tools
  4. Under Tools, click on LIRN System Tool

The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world with more than 158 million items on approximately 838 miles of bookshelves. The collections include more than 36 million books and other print materials, 3.5 million recordings, 13.7 million photographs, 5.5 million maps, 6.7 million pieces of sheet music, and 69 million manuscripts, with many of these available in digital format.
