Baseball Splits Doubleheader at No. 25-Ranked Webber International

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 24, 2021) – The Florida National baseball team (6-19) split a doubleheader at the No. 25-ranked Webber International Warriors on Wednesday.

The Conquistadors dropped Game One, 6-1 (7 innings), and rebounded with a 6-5 (7 innings) victory in Game Two.

In the day’s first contest, FNU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first off an RBI-single by Sergio Rivas. The centerfield finished the contest, hitting 1-for-2 from the dish.

However, WIU scored three runs in the both the third and the fourth innings to take a 6-1 lead and hanging FNU the five-run loss. The Conquistadors were held to two hits while the Warriors scored six runs on six hits.

Daniel Iglesias (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits in three and two-thirds innings of action.

In Game Two, FNU jumped out to a 6-0 lead, scoring three runs in the third and three runs in the fifth. The Warriors charged back looking to get back into the game, scoring four in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth to cut the Conquistador lead, 6-5.

Jose Paradas shut the door on WIU, allowing just one run on three hits in the three innings of relief to earn the save and FNU the victory.

Zjeanuwayne Braafhart (1-2) earned the win, allowing two runs on two hits in four innings pitched.

Christopher Mendez led the Conquistadors driving in three runs on a double in the top of the fifth. Carlos Cartaya registered two RBI in the game, doubling down the left-field line in the top of the third.

The win snapped a nine-game losing streak for the Conquistadors.

FNU will host the Edward Waters Tigers in a three-game series this weekend beginning on Friday, March 26.
