TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. ( Sept. 20, 2022) – Despite a long lightning delay that kept both teams off the pitch in this conference battle, FNU came out on top over the Florida College Falcons 2-1.

The victory improves FNU’s overall record to 1-4-0 and drops Florida College to 4-4-1 and 0-1-0 in conference play.

The Conquistadors got out to a hot start to start their Contential Athletic Conference play, as Dominique Mosley and Anyeli Solarte Castillo both took shots that were just shy of connecting with the back of the net. Amaya Delmis Reyes took a shot of her own that unfortunately landed comfortably in the hands of Falcons goalkeeper Poppy Green.

But this did not deter the freshman from generating a long-awaited goal for the Conquistadors moments later at the 16-minute mark. On an impressive assist from Anyeli Solarte Castillo, Reyes secured the 1-0 lead for the Conquistadors and the team’s second goal this year.

But Florida College did not take Reyes’ heroics lying down. Through the early minutes of the second half, Vanessa Osorio had already tallied six saves and suffered 11 shots from the Falcon’s offense through the first fifty minutes of play.

Just past the 57-minute mark, the Falcons secured the equalizers from Michaela Nicholson, settling the score at 1-1.

It took an impressive, under-pressure shot from FNU’s freshman sensation to put the Conquistadors on top. Reyes once again found the back of the net at the 74-minute mark to ice out the Falcons on their home turf.

FNU ended the night with ten shots and three corner kicks.
