HIALEAH, FL – The Florida National University women’s volleyball team put up a fight that ended with a 3-2 loss in a thrilling five-set game against Ave Maria University played on Tuesday, October 15th at Ave Maria, Florida.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Florida National won the first two sets.
- The Conquistadors jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first set and maintained their lead for most of the set.
- The Gyrenes closed the gap and eventually tied the set at 23 after a kill by Flavia Rusterholz.
- FNU won the next two points to win the set 25-23.
- In the second set, Florida National built an 11-6 lead. Four-straight points by the Gyrenes brought AMU within one, 11-10.
- Later in the set, the Blue and Green won five of six points to take a 17-15 advantage.
- The teams went back-and-forth the rest of the set with AMU getting a set point at 24-23.
- FNU won the final three points of the set to win 26-24 and take a 2-0 lead.
- The Gyrenes controlled the third and fourth sets, winning both 25-16.
- AMU strung together several three- and four-point spurts to build a 21-15 lead in the third.
- AMU won four of the next five points to close out the set, 25-16, finished off on a kill by McKenna Tyson.
- Trailing 4-3 early in the fourth, five straight by AMU gave the Gyrenes a 7-4 lead.
- After an FNU point, four more in a row gave the Blue and Green an 11-5 lead.
- AMU continued to extend their lead later in the set, leading by as many as 11 and going on to win 25-16.
- A kill by Katie Grose sealed the fourth set and sent the game to a fifth and deciding set.
- With AMU leading 4-3 in the fifth set, the Gyrenes won four-straight on Miah Pena’s serve to take an 8-3 lead.
- After the team’s exchanged points, Ave Maria won three of the final four points to close out the set 15-8.

- Lina Valentino recorded 8 kills and 1 block solo.
- Andrea Romero had 23 digs and 2 Assists.
- Gabriela Hernandez and Maria Alejandra Liva recorded 32 and 11 assists respectively.
- FNU’s Player of the week Afraina Ammerlaan recorded FNU 10 kills and 1 assist.

- FNU registered a .126 hitting percentage, recording 49 total kills on 174 attacks with 27 errors.

- The Conquistadors held a 85-81 edge in digs.
- FNU Conquistadors recorded 3 Service aces while Ave Maria noted 11 service aces.
