FNU Splits Doubleheader at Edward Waters

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 10, 2021) – The Florida National softball team (17-12) split its doubleheader at Edward Waters (14-9) on Saturday, falling in Game One, 4-2, and shutting out the Tigers in Game Two, 8-0 (5 innings).

With the doubleheader split, FNU has won 10 of its last 12 contests.

In Game One, EWC pitcher Milani Sablan held the Conquistadors in check, striking out 11 and holding FNU to just five hits.

Trailing 4-0 in the top of the sixth, FNU leftfielder Gabriela De Oliveira blasted a two-run shot to plate the team’s only runs of the contest.

Brandi Kirkpatrick (7-4) suffered the loss allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits in six innings pitched.

The Conquistadors responded in Game Two, shutting out the Tigers, 8-0, in five innings.

FNU scored eight runs on nine hits, including home runs by Nini Underwood, De Oliveira, and Baileigh Ehrlich. Underwood went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored while De Oliveira drove in two and scored another. Ehrlich registered three RBI in a 2-for-3 outing.

Natasha Trujillo (6-4) picked up the victory, tossing five shutout innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five.
