MIAMI SHORES, Fla. ( Sept. 7, 2022) – Conquistadors women’s soccer made a valiant effort against Barry University Wednesday before ultimately falling short of the victory, 3-0. The Buccaneers came into the contest 3-1 with impressive wins against Albany State and 11-ranked Flagler College. FNU now stands at 0-2-0 on the season.

FNU’s first half was highlighted by a juggernaut of Buccaneer’s offense. Conquistador goalkeeper Vanessa Osorio had a solid first half with eight saves as Barry attempted 18 shots on goal in the first 45 minutes.

Despite stellar goalkeeping, Barry connected on its first goal of the contest 5:39 into the match as Cristina Blaya tucked the ball into the bottom center of the goal.

Dominique Mosley had the best opportunity to get the Conquistadors on the board but failed to connect with the back of the net.

In the second half, FNU turned up the intensity of the defensive end and kept Barry’s attackers from collecting their second goal of the match. It wasn’t until Mckenna Delong recorded a goal off a miss from teammate Natalia Lima that Barry pulled away with a 2-0 lead.

Later in the period, Cristina Blaya scored her second goal of the contest off a penalty placed in the bottom right of the net. With lightning in the area, officials paused play and eventually called the match at the 74-minute mark.
