Men’s soccer opens Georgia road trip with 2-1 win over Night Hawks

THOMASVILLE, GA ( Sept. 12, 2022)Florida National comes up with a big win against Thomas University (Georgia) on the road. This is the first of two games in the Peach State, and the 2-1 victory continues FNU’s undefeated season standing at 5-0-0.

The Conquistadors were the first to break the early deadlock, with a goal from Vinicius Mallmann delivered perfectly out of the reach of the Night Hawk’s goalkeeper with the help of teammates Metheus Teixeira and Ricardo Delwing on the assists.

FNU was aggressive early, finishing the first half with seven shots on goal and five corner kicks.

The second half saw the Night Hawks level the contest with a goal from Thomas Kieran McCombe assisted by fellow teammates Luiz Anchieta and Cavan Daley. With this potentially game-changing goal from Thomas coming 68 minutes into the contest, FNU needed to respond quickly if they wanted to come away with the win.

At the 79th-minute mark, Blas Barrancos headed a perfect ball into the net on a textbook cross from Marcos Bakale. This is the second match in a row Bakale has assisted on a goal, and the second time this season Blas Barrancos scored a game-winning goal. The Argentinian national’s first game-winner came against Warner University.

In the final half, FNU tallied nine shots on goal and three corners.
