Softball Opens The Spring Games with a Pair of Losses

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 5, 2021) – During the first day of The Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida, the Florida National softball team (4-9) dropped a pair of games on Friday, losing to the No. 18-ranked Grand View Vikings, 4-0, and falling to the UNOH Racers, 5-3.

In Game One, FNU was held hitless as GVU pitcher Hannah Pals tossed a complete-game shutout victory, striking out 19 Conquistadors while walking only one.

FNU starter Natasha Trujillo (0-3) had a strong outing, allowing just four runs (one earned) on five hits in seven innings of action. FNU reached base just three times in the contest (one walk, two via errors).

In Game Two, FNU committed four errors en route to a 5-3 loss to the Racers (4-1).

The Conquistadors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, then added a run in the top of the third before UNOH rattled off five unanswered runs to close out the contest. Zaira Nunez went 2-for-4 in the contest with a pair of runs scored. Gabyrella Hay also went 2-for-4 in the game.

Trujillo (0-4) picked up her second loss of the day coming in for relief of start Brandi Kirkpatrick.

The Conquistadors will continue action in Kissimmee, facing Spring Arbor and Calumet St. Joseph on Saturday, March 6.
