Conquistadors women’s volleyball team loses in close sets to FMU, 3-0

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Aug. 24, 2022) – Florida National University put up an inspiring fight through three sets against a hungry Florida Memorial University Lions team led by new head coach Jazmine Washington. The Conquistadors lost the final two sets by five and four points, respectively, and ultimately claimed their second loss of the young 2022-23 season.

 

Set One FNU Notables (17-25)

  • The Conquistadors got on the board first on an attack error by Lion Kimberlie Correa.
  • Went ahead 4-3 on Kill by Gabriela Gonzalez
  • Fell behind 6-10 but had a four-point run to tie it up 10-10

 

Set Two FNU Notables (20-25)

  • A kill by Sofia Moreno Bendala tied up the set 4-4.
  • Kept the game close forcing a Lions timeout with the set tied at 15 apiece.
  • Only trailed 20-22 before losing the set

 

Set Three FNU Notables (21-25)

  • An attack error by FMU gave the Conquistadors an early 10-7 lead
  • Gabriela Gonzalez record her first block of the contest
  • A much-needed kill by Joanne Dania put FNU within reach of the lead 19-21

 

Match Notables:

Joanne Dania led all players with 12 kills.

Maria Liva recorded 22 assists in the contest.

Paola Brandsma, Gabriela Gonzalez, and Sofia Moreno Bendala recorded one block, respectively.

 

Up Next: Florida National now moves on to its first home game of the season Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. against Ave Maria University.
