Women’s Soccer Opens Season with 1-0 Loss to St. Thomas

HIALEAH, Fla. (August 27, 2021) – The Florida National women’s soccer team (0-1) opened the 2021 season with a 1-0 loss to the St. Thomas Bobcats (2-0) on Friday afternoon.

The Bobcats used goal in the 57th minute to determine the outcome of the match, as STU’s Megan Velazquez stuck a shot from 15 yards out to find the back of the net. The goal was set up by both Andrea Manzur and Katharina Jullich who both were credited with assists on the play.

Conquistador goalkeeper Vanesa Osorio had a stellar game, recording 10 saves in 90 minutes of action.

STU held a 24-4 edge in total shots however, FNU had a few quality attempts in the second half, including a shot by Mickaela Crespo Calisto which hit the cross bar in the 72nd minute.

FNU will return to action on Wednesday, September 1, traveling to Ave Maria, Florida, to take on the Gyrenes. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
