Conquistadors face 6-1 setback versus Case Western Reserve

HIALEAH, Fla. (March 13, 2023)Florida National University’s men’s tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss fresh off an impressive 4-3 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on March 3. The Conquistadors put up a solid fight through doubles and singles play before ultimately falling to a very strong 14-3 Case Western Reserve squad out of Ohio. 

In doubles play, FNU lost two of its three matches as partners Sebastian Fujita and Jan Oppermann got a 6-3 win. Jerry Makela and Hamish Lee lost their matches 2-6. FNU duo Luigi Stefanacci and David De Ayguavives lost their contest 4-6 to secure the opening point for the Warriors.

In singles play, FNU was unable to mount a comeback despite a solid win from Jerry Makela. The Conquistadors defeated Matthew Plunkett 5-7, 6-1, [12-10].

Sebastian Fujita / Jan Oppermann defeat Daniel French / Yuvraj Narang (6-3)

Number two:

Luigi Stefanacci / David De Ayguavives fall to Rohan Bhat / Matthew Plunkett (4-6)

Number three: 

Jerry Makela / Hamish Lee fall to Justin Prochnow / Pranav Ikkurthy (2-6)

Jerry Makela defeats Matthew Plunkett (5-7, 6-1, [12-10])

Jules Grignon falls to Rohan Bhat (6-2, 3-6, [6-10])

David De Ayguavives falls to Daniel French (4-6, 3-6)

Luigi Stefanacci falls to Yuvraj Narang (3-6, 5-7)

Jan Oppermann falls to Pranav Ikkurthy (4-8)

Sebastian Fujita falls to Justin Prochnow (5-8)
