Conquistadors garner 4-3 win over Warner

HIALEAH, Fla. (March 27, 2023)Florida National University’s men’s tennis team pulled together a tremendous 4-3 win over the Warner University Royals Monday. FNU bounced back from a 0-1 start, after losing the tough opening point in doubles play. But four spectacular singles performances claimed FNU’s second win of the 2023 season. 

In doubles play, Sebastian Fujita and Jan Oppermann as well as FNU duo Luigi Stefanacci and David De Ayguavives fell 4-6 to their Warner competitors. Partners Umberto Particelli and Guido Gentile did manage a 7-6 before both teams turned their attention to singles play.

A 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 singles win from Jerry Makela helped the Conquistadors secure the win in singles play. Particelli, De Ayguavives and Oppermann’s victories sent Warner home packing. 

Doubles Competition:

Number one: 

Sebastian Fujita / Jan Oppermann fall 4-6

Number two:

Luigi Stefanacci / David De Ayguavives fall 4-6

Number three: 

Umberto Particelli / Guido Gentile win 7-6

 

Singles Competition: 

Jerry Makela wins 3-6, 6-4, 6-4

Jules Grignon falls 2-6, 2-6

Umberto Particelli wins 7-5, 7-5

David De Ayguavives wins 6-4, 6-4

Luigi Stefanacci falls 5-7, 2-6

Jan Oppermann wins 6-2, 6-4
