VIERA, Fla. (March 16, 2023) – Conquistador softball faced unfamiliar territory following its most recent stay at the USSSA Space Coast Games. Viera, Fla., has treated the Conquistadors as of late, as FNU held a 9-2 record heading into Thursday’s games. Uncharacteristically, the Conquistadors dropped a close one to the Indiana Tech University Warriors 4-3 and were dominated by a talented Concordia University Cardinals team 10-1 in five innings.

In game one, FNU failed to win its rematch against the Warriors after falling 8-0 on March 12. FNU had three runs, seven hits and three errors in the game. The Warriors collected four runs on four hits with two errors on the board.

Game two saw FNU take an early lead after a triple from Janessa Esquibel put her into scoring position. A single shortstop Megen Johnson allowed Esquibel to go in for the score. This would be the lone run of a two-hit inning for the Conquistadors and FNU’s only score of the game.

Concordia took the lead in the third after a sac fly and a single to right field allowed them to score two runs in a three-hit inning for the Cardinals. This was a quick prologue to a monster six-run, eight-hit fourth inning for Indiana Tech. Pitcher Dakota Kulis walked just one batter despite the Cardinals landing 13 hits during her time in the circle.

FNU ended the game with four hits and one error to go along with one run scored. The Cardinals had 10 runs, 14 hits and two errors.

Up Next: Softball’s last day in Viera starts tomorrow with a 2 p.m. game versus RV Missouri Baptist.
