SUMTER, SC. (Feb. 17, 2023) – Florida National University’s baseball team picked up two solid wins over Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) rival Morris College in dominant fashion. The Conquistadors (3-2) entered this conference series fresh off an impressive 5-1 loss to No. 8 ranked St. Thomas. The Hornets (2-5) looked to cash in on a couple of early season CAC wins to no avail, as FNU played a masterful hitting game.

In game one, FNU routed the Hornets 23-5, collecting 18 hits and committing just two errors. FNU batters were walked a total of 11 times before the contest came to a close in seven innings. Conquistador pitcher Mario Benjamin was stellar from the mound, allowing three Hornet hits and one run before being switched out. Roberto Fernandez led the way with four hits and six runs.

Game two was a seven-inning classic, as FNU broke through with an 18-12 victory commanding 12 hits in the ball game. Pitcher Robert Rodriguez did just enough to keep the Hornets at bay, allowing six runs and eight hits in another high scoring slugfest. Gino Bellantoni had a team-high three hits to go along with three runs.
