DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ( Feb. 7, 2024) – Florida National University’s men’s tennis team (0-3) fell in a tough match to the NCAA DII Embry-Riddle Eagles (1-0) Wednesday. The Conquistadors took on the No.22-ranked Eagles on the road in Daytona Beach, Fla., and were met by an efficient and calculated Eagles team, who scored a 7-0 win. 

FNU’s first loss of the afternoon came in doubles play as Guido Gentile and Alejandro Suarez fell 6-0 against Fernando Alonso and Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo. FNU’s Ignacio Acosta and David Santamaria were the next pair to fall prey to the Eagles, dropping their match to Calaen Potts and Josh Nuyts 6-3. The Eagles ended their doubles play on a high note, as Safar Rasulov and Michele Iftimie got the 6-4 victory on court two opposite Lennart Ostheimer and Luigi Stefanacci

Things did not improve for FNU in singles play, as Gentile and Acosta lost their respective matches by a score of 6-0, 6-1. The Eagles secured their first win of 2024 off a 6-1, 6-2 win by Fernando Alonso over Stefanacci.

David Santamaria / Ignacio Acosta lost to Joshua Nuyts / Caelan Potts (3-6)

Number two:

Lennart Ostheimer / Luigi Stefanacci lost to Safar Rasulov / Michele Iftimie (4-6)

Number three: 

Guido Gentile / Alejandro Suarez defeated Fernando Alonso / Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo (0-6)

Ignacio Acosta falls to Safar Rasulov (1-6, 0-6)

Lennart Ostheimer falls to Michele Iftimie (5-7, 6-7)

Guido Gentile falls to Joshua Nuyts (1-6, 0-6)

Alejandro Suarez falls to Caelan Potts (4-6, 6-7)

Luigi Stefanacci falls to Fernando Alonso (2-6, 2-6)

David Santamaria falls to Alvaro Diaz Rodrigo (1-6, 1-6)
