DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. ( Feb. 7, 2024) – Florida National University’s women’s tennis team (0-3) was unable to pull off the upset against the NCAA DII Embry-Riddle Eagles (1-0) on the road. The courts at the Crotty Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach, Fla., showcased a masterful domination from the Eagles to claim a 6-1 win. 

In doubles play, the Conquistador duo Celeste Deniz Reyes and Natalia Calvo lost to doubles pair Itxaso Blanco and Carla Cabero del Hierro 6-1. FNU’s Vanessa Simone and Nadia Abad couldn’t get past ERU’s Maja Issler and Laura Cuesta Bret falling 6-4. The Eagles went on to sweep doubles play with Chiara Fiorenza and Karyna Krykunenko losing 6-2. 

In singles play, Simone fell at the hands of Laura Cuesta Bret 6-0, 6-0, while Krykunenko lost her match versus Itxaso Blanco 6-2, 6-1. FNU’s sole victory of the afternoon came from Fiorenza’s impressive 1-6, 6-2,10-8 win over ERU’s Kaylee Kirivong.

Vanessa Simone / Nadia Abad lost to Maja Issler / Laura Cuesta Bret (4-6)

Number three: 

Chiara Fiorenza / Karyna Krykunenko lost to Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo / Kaylee Kirivong (2-6)

Natalia Calvo falls to Maja Issler (1-6, 3-6)

Vanessa Simone falls to Laura Cuesta Bret (0-6, 0-6)

Nadia Abad  falls to Carla Cabero del Hierro (1-6, 1-6)

Celeste Deniz Reyes falls to Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo (2-6, 1-6)

Chiara Fiorenza defeated Kaylee Kirivong (1-6, 6-2,10-8)
