HIALEAH, Fla. (Jan. 31, 2024) – Florida National University’s growing eSports program earned an impressive finish in the Fornite Builds Open Qualifier on Feb. 10 before losing 2-0 to the University of North Texas on Feb. 12. The Conquistadors came into Monday’s competition fresh off a 0-2 forfeit against the Emory University’s Varsity squad. The last time FNU fully competed was on Jan. 30, as the University of South gained a dominant 2-0 victory.

In Monday’s qualifier, newcomers Jorge Monsalve Benitez and Erick Pinedo Murgas placed 23rd out of 63 after Monsalve Benitez secured eight kills. FNU played their battles in the A-B Leaderboard, consistently placing 30th through each round of competition. Their work through each round was impressive for their first time competing at the collegiate varsity level but were unable to get any placement points for their efforts.

In the Conquistadors match against North Texas saw FNU overwhelmed by UNT’s masterful play through two rounds.
