VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Florida National University Athletics Department has created a significant amount of buzz in the national spectrum this year, quickly rising to the top of their conference. With all fall sports represented at the USCAA National Championship Women’s Volleyball , Men and Women’s soccer and Men and Women’s Cross Country teams are currently in Virginia Beach, VA battling for USCAA supremacy. After a season filled with both successes and adversities, our athletes and their coaches were rewarded with a night to momentarily forget the competition and simply celebrate their hard work. On the evening of Thursday, November 7th, our athletes dressed to impress and attended the USCAA Awards Banquet. The Conquistadors won big, taking home multiple honors.
Women’s Volleyball
- Head Coach Carlos Huaroto-Luque received the most important award of the night and was named USCAA Coach of the Year after leading the defending champs to a dominant regular season and the #1 Seed in the Tournament.
- Maya Krapf and Gabriela Hernandez were both named First-Team All-Americans, while Andrea Romero was named Second-Team All-American. Maya also was awarded with the most important award of the night as she was recognized as USCAA Player of the year.
- Afraina Ammerlaan and Wandy Cruz received the All-Academic Award.
Women’s Soccer
- Dominique Mosley and Vanessa Osorio were both named Second-Team All-Americans.
- Iman Ali-Dib was named Student Athlete of the year.
- Juliana Oliveira, Bethania Da Cruz, Noriann Gaviria and Paola Mejia received the All-Academic Award.
Men’s Soccer
- Francisco Bongiovanni and Manuel Villegas were both named First-Team All-Americans.
- Rodrigo Festuccia and Martin Marijuan were named Second-Team All-American.
- Victor Surya, Benjamin Zamora, Victor Ruiz, Rodrigo Festuccia, George Perez, Tomas Casavilla and Jesus Caballero received the All-Academic Award.
Our Athletics Program is built around the mantra: “Students first, athletes second;” That dedication to the classroom paid dividends as thirteen Conquistadors were presented with USCAA National All-Academic honors
