HIALEAH, Fla. (Feb. 8, 2024) – Florida National University’s men’s tennis (0-5) dropped two matches to the NCAA DI Stetson University Hatters (5-2) on Feb. 11. The Conquistadors stumbled in doubles play and met a quick defeat in singles play as Stetson claimed a decisive 7-0 win in match one on the courts of the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in DeLand, Fla. Match two was an exhibition for the Conquistadors where FNU fell 7-0 

In doubles play, FNU duo David Santamaria and Ignacio Acosta saw a quick end to their doubles match as Stetson’s, Marc Saura and Juan Jose Rodriguez Garceran, claimed a swift 6-1 victory. Guido Gentile and Alejandro Suarez met a similar result in their match opposite Eder Blanco and Ervin Haris Eminefendic, falling 6-0. FNU’s veterans Sebastian Fujita and Luigi Stefanacci found the most success early before dropping their match 4-3 to Sami Ozzor and Tim Gennes.

Singles play was a show of dominance by the Hatters. Acosta fell short of the mark in his match 6-1, 6-1 while Gentile lost 6-1, 6-2. Hatter Gennes claimed an impressive 6-0, 6-3 win over Stefanacci as Suarez, Santamaria and Luis Figueroa were defeated en route to Stetson’s perfect day at home.

In match two, Fujita and Stefanacci posted a 6-2 loss against Rodriguez Garceran and Marc Saura. The Hatters claimed the opening point after FNU’s Santamaria and Acosta could not defeat Blanco and Eminefendic. 

The Hatters continued their brilliance in singles play with 6-0, 6-0 victories over FNU’s Santamaria and Bryan Cajamarca. FNU would falter in its other four matches as Stetson gained its fifth win of the 2024 season.
