LAWRENCE, KS. (March 3, 2024) – Florida National University’s Janelisse Marty Marrero and Jullie Ruiz Paneto were selected to the 2024 CAC Women’s Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team following standout performances for the Conquistadors in Lawrence, Kansas. FNU made a brilliant run in the conference tournament, earning one of two automatic bids from the CAC to the NAIA national competition.
FNU fell short of the CAC title in the championship game versus the RV College of the Ozarks Bobcats 67-51.
Despite the loss, FNU had excellent showings from its two star guards. Ruiz Paneto was the leading scorer for FNU versus Voorhees University with 28 points. FNU had five players in double figures in its 90-77 quarterfinal victory. Marty Marrero took over for FNU over Arkansas Baptist College in the CAC semifinal round with 33 points, scoring 13 field goals.
Marty Marrero averaged 16.2 points for the Conquistadors this season and Ruiz Paneto posted 22.7 a contest. Ruiz Paneto also recorded 6.3 boards and 5.07 steals in 14 games.
