HIALEAH, Fla. (Dec. 11, 2023) – Florida National University’s star guard Janelisse Marty Marrero brought home her first Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Player of the Week award for the 2023-24 season. The San Juan, Puerto Rico, native was essential to FNU’s 69-62 comeback win against the Trinity Baptist Eagles on Dec. 7.
Marty Marrero recorded a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds in a game where the Conquistadors outscored the Eagles 23-6 in the fourth quarter. She was a ball-hawk on the defense, picking up five steals and snatching eight rebounds off Eagle’s missed shots.
“Helping lead Florida National University to its second win of the season has garnered junior Janelisse Marty Marrero the Continental Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award, the CAC’s release said.
“Those contributions helped the Conquistadors rally from a double-digit deficit entering the fourth quarter to come back for the seven-point victory.”
