HIALEAH, Fla. ( Aug. 18, 2022) – Florida National University’s men’s soccer team proved themselves worthy of its top-25 NAIA preseason ranking after an impressive 4-0 shutout victory against Florida Memorial University Thursday.

The No. 19 Conquistadors wasted no time getting on the scoreboard at Milander Park, as Matheus Teixeira kicked in the match’s first goal. Nicolas Martinez followed up his teammate’s brilliance with a goal of his own just past the 30-minute mark of the contest.

The second half saw more of the same for the red hot conquistadors as Luis Martinez found the back of the net to put FNU up 3-0. Tomas Casavilla iced the game for the home team with a textbook penalty shot. Casavilla and Nicolas Martinez each earned an assist before the final whistle.

While FNU’s offense was electric despite the boiling heat, its defense effectively shut down FMU attackers. The Lions were held to just four shots the entire contest while FNU rattled off 21 and earned seven corner kicks.

Up Next – The Conquistadors look to keep this momentum as they hit the road for another Thursday showdown against FMU. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
