MEN’S SOCCER WINS OVERTIME THRILLER AGAINST NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED

FNU soccer players ruddling up on the fieldORANGE CITY, IA – An own goal just five minutes in overtime gave to Florida National University men’s soccer team (3-0-0) its third win of the season and the Conquistadors remained undefeated with a 2-1 win against Northwestern College.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • FNU started the game pressuring high the Lancers, with 4 minutes FNU took its first shot with Denilson de Almeida, the shot was saved by Gabriel Ivlev.
  • FNU got on the board first in the 13th minute on a goal from sophomore defender Adair Junio Moreira, his first of the season on an assist from Vinicius Mallmann, also his first assist of the season.
  • The Conquistadors held the 1-0 advantage until the 73rd minute, when James Bolger scored on an unassisted goal to tie it up 1-1.
  • The teams played the rest of regulation without another goal, although both teams had several looks, in the 95th minute, five minutes into the first overtime, FNU had a free-kick where Denilson de Almeida cross the ball into the box and an own goal scored by Northwestern College sent the game-winner into the back of the net.
  • Junior goalkeeper Facundo Grimberg played the entire game for FNU, recording four saves. Northwestern College keeper James Warren also played the whole game and made five saves.
  • Vinicius Mallmann took two of the Conquistadors’ four shots through the first 45 minutes, with all two going wide.
  • FNU led the game in shots (16-9), shots on goal (6-5) and corner kicks (3-1) while Mount Marty led in saves (5-4).

GOALKEEPERS

Junior goalkeeper Facundo Grimberg played the entire game for FNU, recording four saves. Northwestern College keeper James Warren also played the whole game and made five saves.
