No. 1-Seeded Conquistadors Advance in USCAA Small College World Series

DUBOIS, PA. (May 17, 2021) – Senior Gabryella Hay drove in a game-high three runs as the Florida National softball team (25-13) defeated the D’Youville Saints (13-18), 5-1, in the opening round of the 2021 USCAA Small College World Series on Monday.

The win propelled the Conquistadors to a second-round matchup in the winner’s bracket with Carlow (Pa.) on Tuesday.

Hay, a First-Team USCAA All-American, batted 2-for-4 versus the Saints, including a three-run blast in the bottom of the second which busted the game wide open.

After falling behind, 1-0 in the top of the first, FNU scored two in its bottom half of the inning on RBI-singles by both Megen Johnson and Gabriela De Oliveira. Johnson, an USCAA All-America honorable mention selection, hit 2-for-3 in the contest while De Oliveira went 1-for-4.

Hay’s three-run home run extended the Conquistador’s lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the second.

Senior Natasha Trujillo three a complete-game victory, allowing one run on eight hits and striking out seven. The First-Team USCAA All-American improved to 10-5 on the year.

Senior Nini Underwood led all Conquistadors with three hits in the contest. The First-Team USCAA All-American scored a pair of runs in the contest to help FNU win its 25th of the season.

FNU will return to the field to take on Carlow on Tuesday, May 18. First pitch is scheduled for 12:45 p.m.
