No. 4 St. Thomas Too Much for Conquistadors

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February, 17, 2021) –A nine-run third inning was too much for the Conquistadors to rebound from as the Florida National baseball team (3-5) lost to the No. 4-ranked St. Thomas Bobcats (5-4), 20-4 (7 innings) on Tuesday evening.

Leading the way for the Conquistadors was Manuel Blanco, who went a perfect 3-for-3 from the dish with a run batted in. Ezequiel Valdez Florentino was 2-for-4 on the night while Jasiel Perez went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

After a scoreless first inning, the nationally-ranked Bobcats broke the game open in the bottom of the second, scoring nine runs on six hits, exploiting four FNU errors. They added five more runs in the bottom of the third before the Conquistadors got on the board in the top of the four with three runs, including runs driven in by Blanco and Perez.

STU kept its foot on the gas pedal, as the game ended in the seventh, 20-4. Of the 20 runs scored by the Bobcats only seven were earned.

Mario Benjamin (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing nine runs (none earned) on seven hits in an innings and two-thirds of action.

The Conquistadors will return to action on Tuesday, February 23, when they travel to Miami Gardens to take on the Florida Memorial Lions. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
