WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. ( Nov. 16, 2022) – Florida National continues its quest for an exhibition win this season after falling short of a victory against the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish. The 84-59 loss signals the third exhibition loss for FNU this season as they fell to Florida International and Bethune-Cookman by double digits. PBA captures its first win of the season following two cancellations that delayed their home opener by a week.
Florida National’s first half proved cold from the field as the Conquistadors shot the ball 32% from the field going just 2-8 from behind the three-point line. Gabriel Casillas had 10 points in the half for the visiting Conquistadors but PBA’s Bryce Laskey had 16 points in the half to give the Sailfish a 43-23 lead at halftime.
In the second, PBA put some real daylight between them and the Conquistadors ending the match with an 84-59 win. FNU had 26 points in the paint and just two fast-break points on the evening. PBA contested layups well as the Conquistadors went an abysmal 16-36 on layup attempts for the evening. Mathew Robinson had 14 points for the evening and put up a solid performance from the charity stripe going 2-2. Casillas ended the contest with 22 points to lead the Conquistadors.
