MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Feb. 22, 2023) – Florida National University’s baseball team nailed their fourth win in a row, defeating the Florida Memorial Lions, 10-3 Wednesday. The Lions (3-3) recently defeated a red-hot University of Fort Lauderdale team fresh off a historic win over the NAIA’s No. 25 Keiser Seahawks. FNU (5-2) stands in the top spot of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) after three dominant wins over the Morris College Hornets last weekend.

FNU was the first to get on the board in this south Florida classic after Jordan Lewis made his way to home plate for an FNU run after stealing two bases en route to the score. The Conquistadors kept it rolling in the second capitalizing on three Lion errors on defense. Lewis scored another run in the second joining Jeremy De La Cruz, Jose Carpena and Adrian Roman as FNU held a 5-1 lead at the end of a four-run, two-hit inning.

A Lewis run and another Conquistador score this time from Matthew Gonzalez on a Lions error gave FNU a 7-1 lead at the top of the fourth. The Conquistadors did just enough in the sixth to ice out the game completing a three-run, two-hit inning as FMU put up just two more runs in the final three frames.

FMU managed seven hits after committing five errors. FNU was spectacular at bat, picking up nine hits, 10 runs, and allowing just one error. CAC Pitcher of the Week Mario Benjamin allowed just two hits and one run while at the mound for the green and yellow. He kept Lion hitters at bay over his three innings of play, walking just one batter.

Up Next: FNU heads to Ave Maria Florida for an 11 a.m. game versus the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University.
