Library Workers Day

The American Library Association observes National Library Week annually in April. Florida National University’s Library joins libraries from across the country to celebrate this special week including National Library Workers Day.

On April 6th, as we celebrate National Library Workers Day, we will salute and recognize our FNU Hialeah Campus Librarian: Maria Elena de la Cruz! Everyone on campus knows Maria Elena and her passion for the library! She was born in Santa Clara, Cuba, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philology (which by the way, is a branch of knowledge that deals with the structure, historical development, and relationships of a language or languages) and a Master’s degree in Library Sciences.

In 2003, Maria Elena came to work for the Florida National University Hialeah Campus Library after serving as a Library Assistant at another local university. Maria Elena is a true Librarian, in every sense of the word. If you need help with finding books and information, you can count on Maria Elena! Her professionalism, customer service, kindness, and sweet demeanor are appreciated by all who enter the FNU Library. Maria Elena is a wonderful role model who encourages a love for reading, learning, and discovery. She shows us that anything is possible if you use all available resources!

Today, we recognize Maria Elena for her commitment and dedication to FNU’s Library. We say “Good job, Maria Elena!” with the sincerest appreciation.
