BABSON PARK, Fla. ( Oct. 28, 2023) – Two losses to Sun Conference powerhouses highlight FNU’s first week of competition in the 2023-24 season. The Conquistadors’ latest defeat came versus the Webber International University Warriors, 90-70. FNU fell behind at the half 39-31 and never truly recovered from a ferocious Warrior attack. Webber claimed its third straight win over FNU to improve to 6-4 over their last ten meetings against the Conquistadors.
In the first half, both teams shot the ball well with the visiting Conquistadors shooting 13 of 31 from the field (41.9%). Webber kept themselves ahead of the curve with five three pointers in the first and nine points from Eden Holt helped the Warriors tie it up at 18 before taking a 23-18 lead. FNU’s Ray Daniel Parrish continued his brilliance from FNU’s loss the previous evening, scoring nine crucial first-half points.
After halftime, Webber added to their eight-point lead with six straight unanswered points to start the half. A couple of made free throws from Kuran Bryant two minutes into the period helped stop the bleeding momentarily before Tyrone Nesby IV sank a contested three on an assist from Holt. FNU had no answer to a stellar Warriors offense that shot 52% from the field with five minutes left in the contest. The Warriors were able to hold Matthew Robinson to a relatively quiet evening, posting just eight points in 36 minutes of play.
FNU was outrebounded 51-40 as Parrish led the team in scoring with 19 and had eight rebounds off the glass. Yamil Diaz and Bryant combined for 23 points.
