HIALEAH, Fla. ( Nov. 22, 2022)Florida National University men’s basketball team lost its second contest in a row to the Webber International University Warriors 72-70. The Conquistadors sit at 1-5 on the season while the Warriors recorded their third win of the year and have only lost one contest in the early goings of the 2022-23 season.

FNU held a comfortable 10-point lead going into halftime that was quickly erased by a steady and disciplined Warriors team. Webber went on to outscore FNU 45-33 in the second half to close the door on the Conquistadors’ first win on home court.

In the first half, FNU was locked in on offense scoring an onslaught of points for a 37-27 lead at the break. FNU was shooting in the high forties for the period and all signs pointed to another Conquistador victory.

When the second half rolled along and the Warriors began attacking the inside and dishing out smart passes to wide-opener shooters. Orri Hilmarsson knocked down a couple of three-pointers and K’Shun Stokes lead the way for the Warriors with 26 points in the match.

Gabriel Casillas had another big night for the Conquistadors with a team-high 20 points including a clutch three-point in the final minutes of the contest before the Warriors iced the match at the free-throw line. Minutes later with FNU down 67-69, Casillas was clutch from the free-point line knocking down both shots before an unfortunate foul with 18 seconds sent Stokes to the Charity stripe and snatched the lead right back into the Warriors’ hands. Matthew Robinson and Jovan Debrito put up double-digit performances with 13 and 16 points, respectively.

The Warriors played the clock perfectly and kept FNU from completing the comeback resulting in a 72-70 victory.
