Women’s tennis drops close one versus Dillard at SSAC Round-UP

MOBILE, Ala. (March 30, 2023)Florida National University’s women’s tennis team fell in a close match versus the RV Dillard University Bleu Devils 4-3. FNU came into this contest fresh off its first win of a 1-8 season, after a dominant 7-0 win over the Warner Royals Monday. Dillard did just enough to deny FNU the win, including securing the opening doubles point.

This 10 a.m. showdown in Mobile, Ala., at the Southern States Athletic Conference Round-Up began with competitive doubles play. FNU partners Salome Sierra and Pirada Suwanruk got a 6-3 win, as the Conquistadors dropped the other two matches to lose the opening point.

In singles play, Sierra continued her brilliant play with a solo win over Dillard’s Truc Tran 6-4, 6-4. Suwanruk and Nadia Abad’s impressive 6-0, 6-4 and 6-4, 6-3 wins, respectively, were not enough to secure the win. The Bleu Devils collected three singles victories for its first win of this three-day conference battle across the Florida-Alabama line.
