HIALEAH, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2024) – Florida National University’s women’s tennis team (0-6) was unable to get a much-needed win over the NCAA DII Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish (1-4). FNU did conquer the doubles portion of the competition but could not contain PBA’s talent. The Sailfish gained five victories in singles play to earn its first win of the 2024 season.

Doubles play saw FNU take a 1-0 lead with victories from Nadia Abad and Vanessa Simone over Virginia Borja and Alina Hoermann by a score of 6-3. FNU pair Karyna Krykunenko and Chiara Fiorenza posted a win against Frida Alsterhem and her partner by the same score.

In singles play, FNU’s Krykunenko lost to Jasmine Williams while Calvo dropped her match to Alina Hoermann 1-6 and 1-6. Abad was the only FNU player to gain a victory in singles play, defeating Borja 6-3 and 6-1. Losses from Simone, Reyes and Fiorenza ended FNU’s hopes of a win at home and allowed PBA to head home with a hard-earned win.
