NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (April 29, 2023) – Florida National University’s baseball team rallied from a game one 11-8 loss to the Trinity Baptist Eagles for an impressive 6-4 win in game two. FNU’s split its final regular season doubleheader and heads into postseason play 16-17.

In game one of this noon showdown at Claude Pepper Park was not ideal for FNU. The home team gave up four runs and three hits at the top of the first. An RBI single from designated hitter Roberto Fernandez made it a 4-1 ball game before the Eagles answered back with an RBI base hit of their own.

TBC continued to connect different throws resulting in five runs and four hits in the fourth and fifth frames. A costly error from the Eagle’s catcher scored Jason Altuve and a classic three-RBI homer from Matthew Gonzalez cut the Eagle lead to just three.

Despite getting two runners on board in the seventh, TBC did just enough to close out the game. FNU had 12 hits with no error committed while TBC notched 12 hits and two errors.

Game two was a total wake-up call for FNU, batting in three runs on a costly error from the Eagles and a single from first baseman Yordangel Gonzalez.

The Eagles weathered this Conquistador storm with three unanswered runs through the next three innings. TBC momentarily tied up the game in the fifth before a two-RBI homer courtesy of third baseman Gonzalez sealed the 6-4 home win.

FNU recorded seven hits to TBC’s nine while both teams had two errors.
