BABSON PARK, Fla. ( Sept. 8, 2023) – Florida National University’s women’s soccer team (0-3-0) continues its search for its first victory of 2023 after falling short against the Webber International University Warriors (1-2-0) Friday 2-0. FNU came into this matchup fresh off a 1-0 loss to the St. Thomas University Bobcats Sept. 5.

The Warriors have dominated its matchup against the Conquistadors, winning all five contests between these two programs since 2018.

In the first half, Webber was aggressive early, picking up 12 shots in the period while FNu’s offensive woes continued. Mickaela Calisto, Johanna Andersson and Claudia Rivero all had one shot attempt that could not break through the Webber defense. At the 38-minute mark, Webber’s Deb Guillen pelted in the Warriors’ first goal of the afternoon, giving her team a 1-0 lead before both teams headed to the sideline for halftime.

The second period was more of the same for the Warriors, owning the first six shot attempts taken after the break. This persistent attack on the FNU backline paid off once again as Guillen delivered a stellar pass to teammate Solimar Hernandez to make it a two-goal lead for the home team.

FNU tried to counter quickly, Rivero and Andersson combined for three shots that were quickly secured by the Webber goalie, Cameron Laine. Play was cut short due to weather and the game was called with 12 minutes left on the clock.

FNU’s Makenna Suarez and Ariana Ulloa were issued the only yellow cards of the match. Webber led the way with 23 shots to the Conquistadors’ seven. The Warriors attempted four corner kicks while FNU had three.
