Four wins in singles play push men’s tennis past BMC

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (April 14, 2023)Florida National University’s men’s tennis team overcame another loss in doubles play for a thrilling 4-3 win over Southern States Athletic Conference foe Blue Mountain Christian College Friday. This is the first victory for FNU at the Montgomery SSAC Round-Up and improves its season record to 4-7. The Toppers drop to 5-8 on the year and 0-4 in SSAC play.

Losses from doubles partners Jan Oppermann and Sebastian Fujita as well as Luigi Stefanacci and David De Ayguavives gave BMC a 1-0 lead heading into singles play. 

Four roaring victories from FNU’s Guido Gentile, Umberto Particelli, De Ayguavives and  Stefanacci got the job done in Alabama.

Number one: 

Jan Oppermann / Sebastian Fujita fall to Rick Sakamoto / Danko Yordanov 1-6

Number two:

Umberto Particelli / Guido Gentile versus Justin Van Amerongen / Axel Sperling DNF

Number three: 

Luigi Stefanacci / David De Ayguavives fall to Marco Inga / Victor Lopez 6-7 [1]

Sebastian Fujita falls to Justin Van Amerongen 6-4, 1-6, 4-6

Guido Gentile defeats Marco Inga 3-6, 6-1, 6-4

Umberto Particelli defeats Danko Yordanov 4-6, 6-4, 6-4

David De Ayguavives defeats Rick Sakamoto 6-7, 6-3, 6-3

Luigi Stefanacci defeats Victor Lopez 7-6, 6-1

Jan Oppermann falls to Axel Sperling 3-6, 3-6
