Lawrenceville, Ga. (May 05, 2023) – Florida National University’s softball team fell short of a win in game one of the Continental Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship versus Crowley’s Ridge College. The Conquistadors (21-18) lost 5-1 to an impressive Pioneers squad that scored on a couple of timely singles in the seventh.

The Pioneers got on the board first on an RBI double to left field from shortstop Maddie Reed. This lead was quickly erased at the bottom of the third on a run scored by Sabrina Castelli courtesy of a Megen Johnson single

The Conquistadors gave up three hits over the next three innings but kept CRC off the board. At the top of the seventh, the Pioneers came alive with four runs and five hits to take a 5-1 advantage. The Pioneers scored on two singles and capitalized on a costly error from catcher Kaylee Pitman.

FNU fought to stay alive down the stretch, but a line out on Johnson brought the game to a close.

Up Next: Conquistador softball looks to bounce back at the CAC Championship tomorrow with a win over the USCB Sand Sharks. The first pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
