Dental lab technicians design, create, and repair dental prosthetics, such as crowns, bridges, veneers, and dentures. As a dental lab technician, you may fabricate custom mouthguards and night guards for patients. You will use advanced tools and equipment, including wax presses, ovens, polishing machines, and milling machines, as well as materials such as acrylic, porcelain, and metal alloys.
As a dental lab technician, you may also take impressions of teeth, creating prosthetics and appliances, as well as fabricate dental devices to take impressions of teeth using alginate or silicone putty. You will shape and contour the material to match the patient’s tooth structure, and then cast the device in metal or other materials. Some finishing techniques include polishing and glazing.
You will learn these dental lab skills during the Dental Laboratory Technology Degree program at Florida National University.
THIS PROGRAM IS NOT DESIGNED FOR TRANSFER TO A SENIOR INSTITUTION.
Dental Technician students are required to wear a Laboratory jacket. Students must furnish their own Laboratory jackets and dental supplies
CLASSES ARE OFFERED SIMULTANEOUSLY IN ENGLISH AND IN SPANISH
