DuBois, Pa. (May 17, 2023) – Despite late-game heroics in their first meeting versus the Mississippi University for Women Owls at the USCAA Small College World Series, the Conquistadors were eliminated after suffering a 4-2 loss on their third day in DuBois, Pa. The Owls got their revenge due in large part to ten much-needed hits and excellent fielding from their infielders.

The Owls were red-hot to start the game with a lone RBI homer to left center from Riley Phillips. An RBI-single courtesy of Asjhton Farnell made it a 2-0 Owl advantage in the second.

Mississippi University for Women scored another run at the top of the third but had their lead threatened after Yleisha Perez singled to shortstop to run in catcher Kaylee Pitman

With its lead standing at 3-1, Alysa Newman gave the Owls their fourth run of the afternoon on a sacrifice fly that bought just enough time for teammate Riley Phillips to strut into home. Perez once again answered the call of a struggling FNU squad that left eight runners on board during its seven innings of play.

Perez executed a sacrifice fly that scored speedy pinch runner Alexis Lendo. Facing just a two-score deficit FNU went to work in the seventh, allowing just one hit before getting three quick outs to get back on offense.

This strong defensive showing was not enough, as groundouts on Megen Johnson and Bailey Fernandez along with a flyout on Ana De Oliveira Obando ended FNU’s three-peat hopes.
