Florida National wraps up Fall tennis campaign at ERAU Invitational

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 31, 2022) – Florida National’s men’s and women’s teams participated in their final Fall tournament this season at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Invitational October 29-30. Players were divided into two flights, gold and blue, for singles and doubles play.

FNU made it to four of the six singles finals in both flights, as Umberto Particelli and Guido Gentile went undefeated in play to win their brackets defeating Palm Beach Atlantics Blake Williams and Niklas Gesslein from ER, 6-1, 6-0 and 2-6, 7-6 (5), 10-8. The two Italian natives team up and had similar success in doubles play defeating the field with extreme efficiency and overpowering Embry-Riddle’s Pol Fontdegloria and Yoav Nir 7-6. FNU’s Ignacio Munoz and Luis Figueroa also won out in their doubles final taking down Palm Beach Atlantic pair Peter Dragar and Kazuma Uematzu.

On the women’s side, Vanessa Simone and Salome Sierra won their respective singles in the final round of the gold flight against PBA’s Greta Langui and Anabelle Robichard 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 and 6-4, 6-3, respectively. Sofia Pera defeated another PBA standout Avery Brothers in the final round of the Blue flight 7-5,7-5. Michell Hurtado and Belen Mestanzas won two doubles matches for the weekend defeating ER’s Rachel Swan and Kaylee Kirivong 6-3 as well as PBA’s Jelsyvette Croes and Giovanna Kelm 6-0.

Up Next: Florida National prepares for Spring play as the next tournament on deck for the men’s team is against Barry University on January 30. The women’s team faces Nova Southeastern University on February 1.
