Men’s tennis comes up short in conference play

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (April 28, 2023) – Florida National University’s men’s tennis failed to get postseason revenge versus the Dillard Bleu Devils. The Conquistadors fell 4-1 after inclement weather forced the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Tennis Championship to push all matches from Thursday to Friday at 10 a.m in Montgomery, Ala. 

In doubles play, losses from partners Umberto Particelli and Guido Gentile and Luigi Stefanacci and David De Ayguavives by a score of 3-6 secured the Bleu Devils the opening point. FNU’s Jerry Makela, Jules Grignon and Particelli were unable to secure wins in the singles portion of the competition, securing a dominant Dillard victory

Transfer De Ayguavives secured the lone Conquistador point of the afternoon after defeating Dillard’s Daniel Sich 6-2,6-4.

Number one: 

Umberto Particelli / Guido Gentile fall to Pablo Martin / Jesus Rodriguez 3-6

Luigi Stefanacci / David De Ayguavives fall to Daniel Mankowski / Albert Segura 3-6

Jan Oppermann / Sebastian Fujita defeat Yassine Ben Jemaa / Nour Salah Ibrahim 6-4

Singles Competition: 

Jerry Makela falls to Nour Salah Ibrahim 4-6, 6-3, 5-7

Jules Grignon falls to Pablo Martin 0-6, 4-6

Umberto Particelli falls to Albert Segura 2-6, 5-7

David De Ayguavives versus Yassine Ben Jemaa DNF
