Conquistador Lose Series Opener at (rv) Webber International, 14-6

BABSON PARK, Fla. (January 29, 2021) – The Florida National baseball team (2-3) dropped the opener of a three-game series with the (rv) Webber International Warriors (1-1), 14-6, on Friday night from the Heart of Florida Field in Babson Park, Florida.

The Conquistadors scored six runs on nine hits in the contest and were led by Tyler Hall, who went 2-of-3 from the plate with one home run and to RBI. Raymond Mendez scored three runs for FNU, hitting a solo shot in the second – his first of the season.

The Warriors set the tone in the bottom of the first, driving three runs to take a 3-0 lead. Mendez got the Conquistadors on the board with a blast over the left-field fence. However, WIU responded with three more runs in their half of the second, 6-1.

Each time the Conquistadors tried to chip away at the deficit, the Warriors reestablished their lead. Hall’s two-run shot in the top of the fourth got FNU within two runs, 7-5. But, a two-run bottom half of the inning made it a four-run game, 9-5.

The Warriors put the game out of reach, posting a five-run bottom of the eighth.

Starter Brandon Torres (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits in one inning of action.

The Conquistadors will continue their series with the Warriors on Saturday, January 30, with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
