Florida National University Establishes International Studies Department and Student Club

FNU to Enhance Academic and Personal Outcomes of International Students

Miami, FL (PRWEB) March 28, 2014

Florida National University (FNU) has recently amplified its effort to recruit international students through the creation of an International Studies Department. The department will target students who wish to study in the United States, or who wish to take online courses from an accredited American university. Operations will officially commence mid-April 2014.

In order to make studying abroad a viable opportunity for international students, the department will meet its goals by building strong partnerships with global educational agencies and universities from around the world. As a method for streamlining the admission process for international students, the department will also function as a support team for said students as well as negotiating and supporting study abroad programs of interest. Now, prospective and current students will be able to turn to FNU for advice on obtaining an F-1 student Visa and an I-20 Visa.

To address the need of helping an international student transition to a new country, the International Studies Department is sponsoring an International Students Club to serve as a medium for connecting international and local students with the broad spectrum of cultures represented at FNU. By filling in the gaps that prevent such students from achieving their academic and personal goals, FNU’s International Studies Department believes it will be able to overcome the challenges involved with studying abroad.

“People are now able to enhance their personal interests and their education by having friends from around the world,” says Rommy Saavedra, Director of the International Studies Department and International Students Club.

As a university that prides itself on opening its doors to international students, FNU wants each newcomer to have an unforgettable experience while studying in the United States. Recognizing the common desire of its students to study abroad, the International Students Club will work with students on an individual basis to accomplish this goal. Through consistent moral support, students can also look to the International Students Club as an outlet for dealing with this transition. Club activities are centered on learning about other cultures, practicing English and developing opportunities to become an FNU Ambassador. More than just an extra curriculum activity, an FNU Ambassador is an international student that is elected by the club to represent his/her country and share his/ her experience of being an international FNU student on social networks.

Overall, FNU holds the belief that studying abroad should be a cherished experience that shapes perspectives and cultural competence. Through proper guidance and insight, Rommy Saavedra explains, “This club will allow Florida National University to give international students a voice, build prominent connections with other countries and their cultures, and enhance the student’s experience of being an international student.” Since intercultural communication is a requirement of the world we live in, FNU will fulfill that necessity with the advent of the International Studies Department and its complementary student club.
